Hiroshima, of course, is the site of the world’s first nuclear bomb detonation, which took place at 8:15 a.m. in the morning of August 6, 1945.  This is the Gembaku Domu, the “A-Bomb Dome,” which is the sole structural ruin of the bombing left in the city, now the centerpiece of Peace Memorial Park.

We also went to the Heiwa Kinen Shiryokan (Peace Memorial Museum), which was a very disturbing experience.  The museum was very much like a Holocaust museum.  Although America was drawn into the war by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, we felt very much like the conspicuous Americans looking at the charred remains of clothes, dark dioramas, and statistics of devastation.
