The Ice

Near the mountains, there are pools of ice that have separated from the glacier or have developed 
from the melted water and snow that comes off of the mountains .  These ice formations, 
affectionately referred to as "The Groovy Pools," had some very interesting characteristics.  When 
you looked into the ice, you could see the ice crystallizing in a variety of patterns. 

Some look like they create tunnels of ice...

...others look like they are vertical columns of bubbles that were frozen...

...and others look like there are horizontal bubbles that are growing out of big bubble sections.

On top of the ice, at the right angle, you can see the crystallization has made ridges in the surface of the ice.
