The Ice
Near the mountains, there are pools of ice that have separated from the
glacier or have developed
from the melted water and snow that comes off of the mountains . These ice
formations,
affectionately referred to as "The Groovy Pools," had some very
interesting characteristics. When
you looked into the ice, you could see the ice crystallizing in a variety of
patterns.
Some look like
they create tunnels of ice...
|
...others look like they are vertical columns of bubbles
that were frozen...
|
...and others look like there are horizontal bubbles that
are growing out of big bubble sections.
|
On top of the ice, at the right angle, you can see the
crystallization has made ridges in the surface of the ice.
